The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the world. The museum began its work in 1866, and the main building on Fifth Avenue opened its doors in 1880. You can spend the whole day here, and maybe will want to come back the next day. A list of current and future expositions is at the museum website. The museum presents the history and work in the field of sculpture, painting, photography, musical instruments of various periods as well as geographies.

Please note that starting March 1, 2018 The Metropolitan Museum of Art no longer works on suggested admission basis. Full ticket is required for everyone except New York State residents as well as students from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

The Metropolitan Museum hours:

Sunday to Thursday: 10 am to 5.30 pm, Friday - Saturday: 10 am to 9 pm. Closed on Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November), Christmas (December 25th), January 1st and first Monday in May.
