Hell’s Kitchen

Hell’s Kitchen is one of the neighborhoods of Manhattan, from 34th to 59th Street, from 8th Avenue to the Hudson River.

Hell’s Kitchen has a rich history. It used to be a very unsafe area. If you remember the movie "Gangs of New York", the group from Hell’s Kitchen was considered to be the most dangerous. It was unsafe not only in the movies but in real life. Law and order was restored by Rudy Giuliani, even before he became the city’s mayor. In the early 1980s he started turning New York City into a safer place, serving then at the District Attorney’s Office.

Now Hell’s Kitchen is famous primarily for its restaurants. There’s even a street called Restaurant Row. It runs through 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues. Hell’s Kitchen is so associated with the food that there is even a TV cooking show with the same name in the US.

Each year in May there is a Food Festival here. You can try the different cuisines: the German, Polish, Asian, Italian, Spanish, etc. Photos from the events of the past, as well as a list of participants can be seen on the festival website.
