The new season at The Metropolitan Opera starts in September and runs until May.
The Metropolitan Opera was founded in 1883. The first opera house was located on Broadway and 39th Street. Almost from the outset it was clear that the building did not meet the high standards of opera acoustics, but is was only in 1966 that the new opera building was built.
Today, the Metropolitan Opera is one of the best opera houses in the world. In addition to the excellent acoustics, in 1995 the Metropolitan Opera added another convenient feature for its visitors: screens that provide simultaneous translation of the libretto into several languages. The screens are discrete, can be turned on or off, are placed at each individual seat.
